Preparation for Home Blood Collection

The person being tested must follow the necessary preparation before blood sampling, which typically includes the following:

  1. Fasting for 10-12 hours before the blood draw.
  2. Avoiding intense physical exercise the day before the test.
  3. Avoiding alcohol and foods high in fat the day before.
  4. Maintaining regular dietary habits in the days leading up to the test.
  5. Stopping the intake of dietary supplements (e.g., vitamins) about 24 hours before the blood draw.
  6. Patients with thyroid disorders should not take their morning medication before the test. They can take it after the test, in consultation with their doctor.
  7. Patients on medication should consult their treating physician regarding the use of medications before the blood collection.

Once you’ve followed the proper preparation, an experienced phlebotomist will come to your location at the scheduled time to collect your blood or other biological samples for testing and analysis.
